As we mentioned earlier in the What's New section, AW Pottery makes a multitude of high-quality, winter-proof pots and we're a retailer. Come by and pick the pot that's right for you.
The above bamboo spout with pump sells for $40 here at Falling Water Gardens. It's a quick and easy set up. After you've selected you vessel and installed the spout, all that's left to do is add the flora and fauna.
Great plant choices include floaters like hyacinth and water lettuce, or bog plants like dwarf papyrus, bog bean, iris or cattail. Water lilies will also do great in a container garden.
Goldfish like sarasa or shubunkin do great in small gardens, though overpopulating your pot may not be a good idea. They can also eat insect larvae, although container gardens discourage mosquitos from breeding as they don't care for moving water.
You should top off the pot occasionally when evaporation takes hold. Some plants might need fertilizing. Every few months, it's a good idea to change out a quarter of the water with fresh. At least once a year, give the pot a thorough 100% cleaning and scrubbing. Algae can be controlled with critters (fish; plants, etc) or with products like Algae Fix that we sell in Monroe. Other than that, your container garden requires little maintenance. It's the perfect, delicate accent to any garden, large or small. |
